Excerpts from You Don’t Have To Be Blind To See

by Jim Stovall

"A recent psychological study revealed that the number one fear most people have about disease or disability is the fear of going blind. People fear blindness even above dying.

Before I lost my sight, I feared blindness, too. But more than I fear blindness today, I fear not living. I fear not being my best. I fear not maximizing my potential and not doing everything I can do to achieve what I want to achieve, be who I want to be, and have what I want to have. I fear not trying. I fear nor hoping.

Being blind isn’t the worst thing that can happen to people. Living without hope is the worst thing."

"Opportunity abounds. All of the good deals aren’t over yet. All of the best ideas haven’t been thought. All of the greatest companies haven’t been founded. All of the new products haven’t been invented. All of the money in the world is not in somebody else’s bank account. There is still plenty of room for you to make money. And even more so, there is still plenty of opportunity for you to become the person you want to be, to do what you want to do, and to have what you want to achieve."

"I’ve seen people recover physical abilities, yet never get over emotional trauma after a serious accident. I’ve seen other people overcome the psychological and emotional trauma of a serious illness even though they may never regain fully their physical capabilities. Which is the greater healing? Which is the better recovery? If I had the option of living a mediocre life with eyesight or of living the life I have today, even though I am blind, I’d stay blind and keep the life I have."

"Nothing is more powerful than a person who knows his or her destiny and has chosen now as the time to pursue it. As far as I’m concerned, the almighty God, who created the heavens and the earth and everything we have and know, would not have given you the hope or dream or ambition or idea that you hold in your heart if it wasn’t time for you to act on it right now.

Today’s the day!"

"Take ownership of your life. You are where you are because of decisions you have made in the past."

"You change your life when you change your mind."

"Don’t be afraid to lasso a dream."

"Visualization is mental rehearsal . . . it’s in our ability to visualize that we truly test our desires and form them into dreams."

"Your destiny will always lay in front of you . . . just beyond your reach . . . challenging you and pulling you forward and upward in your life."

"Having integrity is doing the right thing in a situation, even if nobody is watching and nobody will ever know."

"Focus more on who you are than on what you do. Ultimately, that’s where your value lies."

". . . sometimes you don’t have to blast your way to success; you simply need to endure the hard times."

"Success is getting up each and every day . . . and embracing life to the fullest, eager for the opportunities and possibilities the day holds."

"Acknowledge the source of your motivation, and use it to propel you toward your personal destiny."

"To achieve balance doesn’t mean to bring every element of your life to a level of mediocrity. It means to raise every element to excellence."
