NTN Awards

The Narrative Television Network has received many awards and honors for its outstanding service and innovative technology in serving the blind and visually impaired community.


Jim Stovall Named Chairman of DLN

In 2011, NTN founder and president, Jim Stovall, was named Chairman of the Description Leadership Network (DLN), a national initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Education to advise and oversee the industry. The DLN is made up of every major producer of description and stakeholder in the field of visual impairments.

Jim Stovall Awarded International Humanitarian Award

In 2000, Stovall was presented the International Humanitarian Award by the Lions Clubs, the largest organization in the world dedicated to serving people who are blind and visually impaired. Fellow recipients of this honor include Jimmy Carter, Nancy Reagan, and Mother Teresa.

Jim Stovall Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

In 2010, Jim Stovall received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Council of the Blind for his groundbreaking work in accessibility through the Narrative Television Network.

NTN Receives Top Business Honor from U.S. Chamber

The Narrative Television Network received one of four national awards from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce when it was honored with the Blue Chip Award.  The Blue Chip Enterprise Initiative was established to identify entrepreneurs who have dealt successfully with significant challenges and to make their stories widely available as models for other small-business people.  It also is a tribute to the millions of small-business owners and managers whose efforts and commitment have long been vital to the continuing health of our national economy.  The Initiative is sponsored by MassMututal: The Blue Chip Company, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and Nation's Business magazine.  ~Tulsa World article 2008.

NTN Receives Emmy

In 1990, NTN was presented with an Emmy Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for Expanding the Scope of Television through its innovative technique in adding the voice of a narrator to the programming soundtrack.

In 1991, the Media Access Award from the television and motion picture industry was given to NTN for special merit.

The Writers Foundation of America awarded NTN its Golden Georgi in 1993--its highest honor for script and screenwriting.

NTN received recognition for Creative Excellence from the International Film and Video Commission in 1994.

The American Foundation for the Blind has awarded NTN its Robert S. Bray Award.

Celebrity Spokespersons

Since its inception, many of the recognized leaders in the television, motion picture, and entertainment industry have served as spokespersons for the Narrative Television Network. These outstanding individuals have appeared on NTN in interviews, features, and promotional spots, all of which add a tremendous value to the network’s programming.

During the past few years, several prominent entertainers have served as spokespersons for NTN’s programming and public service campaigns. These include Ted Turner, Steve Allen, Eddie Albert, Carol Channing, Peter Graves, Andy Williams, and Pat Boone.
